As someone who lives in a tiny apartment, I’m always looking for ways to improve the air quality. Normally, I just turn on a fan and hope for the best, however, I recently decided that I wanted to get an air purifier since I’ve been getting sick so often. Not that an air purifier would be the end all be all, but I figured it could help get some of the germs and pollutants out of the air that might be contributing to my frequent colds.
The Dyson Purifier Cool(opens in a new tab) air purifier is advertised to “purify the whole room and cool you.” That sounded pretty good to me, especially as someone who runs hot.
The brand's latest TP07 model is an upgrade from former models with its advanced filtration system and intelligent sensing capabilities. With that said, there are many other advanced features to this model that we’ll get into.
How does the Dyson Purifier Cool air purifier work?
Similar to the TP04, this Dyson Pure Cool has a hollow oblong shape, with the base pulling in air, then pushing purified air out of the upper “shell” through the bladeless Air Multiplier tech. The purifier senses, captures, and traps 99.97 percent of particles 0.3 microns in size using its HEPA filter. Whether you’re looking for it to help remove allergens, gases, dust, or debris this air purifier does it quickly and efficiently.
The Dyson Purifier Cool air purifier is intuitive and easy to use
I’ve tried a fair share of air purifiers in the past and I never know if I’m actually using them correctly. Normally, I’d just click the power button and hope for the best. However, the Dyson Pure Cool is very intuitive both in terms of assembly and navigation.
If there’s one thing I despise it’s directions — I don’t have the patience to sit there and read through a long instructional booklet. For the sake of this review, I did just to make sure I had everything working properly, but I would have been able to figure it out even without it since the parts were self-explanatory similar to completing a puzzle.
After putting in the filters and clicking them into place, not much else was required except turning the appliance on. The remote has the following buttons: power, information menu, airflow speed, automode, airflow direction, oscillation, airflow direction, and night mode. And so you don’t lose it, the remote magnetically rests on top of the machine for easy storage.
The app is also very self-explanatory. On the home page, there are icons that indicate the AQI (air quality index), indoor temperature, RH (relative humidity), particulate matter (PM2.5), particulate matter (PM10), volatile organic compounds (potentially harmful odors cooking, burning fuel, perfume, cleaning products, etc.) and NO2 (nitrogen dioxide and oxidizing gasses.)

According to the brand, the Dyson Purifier Cool projects over 77 gallons of air per second. I’m not a scientist, but I couldn’t really tell if that was actually the case or not. As an average person, I can't really tell what 77 gallons of air feels like, but I can say it was a robust and steady airflow through the machine.
I liked how there was the option to adjust the fan speed both through the app and the remote. This made it more convenient when I was in bed and wanted to adjust the settings via my phone without needing to get up and manually do it myself.
At the highest speed, there is a bit of noise, but nothing crazy. I’d compare it to white noise or your traditional high-speed fan that provides a steady rhythmic sound during use. However, on the lowest settings, I couldn’t hear it at all. Dyson says it’s 20 percent quieter than the previous model, so that’s a perk.
Using the remote, you can also set the air purifier to oscillate up to 350 degrees (45, 90, 180, 350) so it’s spreading purified air throughout the entire space — that’s ideal if you really want to take full advantage of the machine.
The air purifier is sleek and boasts a chic modern look
Something you don't want is an air purifier to be big, bulky, and take up a lot of space in your home. This was extremely important for me in my small apartment, which is a reason I opted for the Dyson Pure Cool in the first place.
This one is pretty thin and narrow and can be stored in a corner or against the wall so it’s out of the way. I put mine in my bedroom right next to my bed so I could have the cool air blowing on me — I live in Florida so this was a beneficial way to keep my air clean while beating the heat.
It’s available in two colors — white/silver and nickel/black. I have the white/silver one and I absolutely love it. It looks very high-tech and chic, which makes sense given the $570 price tag.
Dyson Pure Cool air purifier performance
As of writing, I’ve used the Dyson Pure Cool air purifier for about two weeks. The device itself actually works and the app seamlessly works in tandem with it.
I didn’t know how I’d be able to actually see if it was working, but I decided to do a few different tests. First, I gave myself an at-home manicure near the purifier. It picked up those particles because the number on the app went up significantly. It was still in the “good” category, but on the higher end. The same results happened when I accidentally burnt my grilled cheese and there was a bit of smoke floating around my kitchen.
Luckily, my setting never reached a level where it was “extremely poor” or “severe” on the rating scale, however, it was reassuring to know that it went up that high.
I wasn’t able to use its voice control capabilities since I don’t have an Amazon Alexa or a Google Home. Honestly, I’m not a fan of voice control so that didn’t really affect my experience.
As for the performance, I was very satisfied with how well this air purifier worked from start to finish with easy setup and control. Plus, as someone who runs hot, the cooling effects were amazing. It was a 2-for-1 deal which I loved. There was even the option to divert the cool air away from you if you’ve had enough.
I loved the night mode because I’m sensitive to light and noise at bedtime, and it was super helpful when the display reduced its lighting and the noise went down to a super quiet level.
Is the Dyson Pure Cool Worth It?
For $570, it’s hard to say if the Dyson Pure Cool TP07(opens in a new tab) is worth it. However, I think it comes down to what you value. For example, if you value having a living place with clean air that’s also kept cool, then it’s worth it. Also, if you value ease of use and a sleek design, you’re also at an advantage there.
However, if all you want is a simple air purifier, then you could probably find something similar without all of the technological features that jack up the price. And although the filters last for about a year according to the brand, they’ll eventually have to be replaced for $80 which isn’t cheap. So, if you have the money, Dyson unsurprisingly performs well.
